“COME INDIA SING A CHRISTMAS CAROL” – A Musical Celebration of Christmas

“COME INDIA SING A CHRISTMAS CAROL” – A Musical Evening Celebrating Christmas: Conduent presented “A Musical Evening Celebrating Christmas”, a concert conceptualised and implemented by the Lorraine Music Academy in aid of LAMP Trust. The spirit of Christmas filled the air on 16th December at the Kingdom of Dreams. A house full Showshaa auditorium was glittering and vibrating with the yuletide spirit and song. It seemed like heaven’s angels came down to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ ~ 2,000 years ago with people of Gurugram. It seemed like the angels were calling, “Come India Sing A Christmas Carol”!

There were a total of 100 students from Gurugram schools including Lorraine Music Academy, Pathways World School and Jyestha School. Children aged 4 to 18 years sang carols dating from the 16th Century in both traditional and modern styles.

We were privileged to have Shri John Samuel, IAS, who retired as the Post Master General of India and Member, Postal Services Board, Ministry of Communications & Information Technology, Government of India. John Samuel was credited with the initiative of conceptualising and implementing Speed Post in our nation. John’s speech about his ongoing journey to serve the nation of India as a retired IAS officer was touching and inspiring.

We were also honoured with the presence of Air Marshal Anil Chopra who was a Special Guest at our event. He blessed us with his encouraging words about our “Project India Dreams 2047” and his story of how he pursued his dream to learn the Saxophone later in his life. His motivation, positivity and encouragement was so special that we would love to record his musical journey and narrate it to every child, youth and adult who contacts us to learn music.

Mike Manlun opened the evening with the instrumental solo performance of “Joy To The World” on the Guitar and the audience loved it. Mike Manlun is a highly talented professional guitarist and teacher. He composes, improvises, performs and puts together music.

The next song set the mood for the evening with 50 students of Lorraine Music Academy singing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” in A Capella style. The next carol was “Carol of the Bells”, sung by young children from the Lorraine Music Academy in four different voices – soprano, alto, tenor & bass – and two beat boxers.

The Lorraine Music Academy band took over with Carols in Rock and Pop style. They played “O Holy Night”, “Jingle Bell Rock”, “Carol of the Bells” and “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer”.

The Christmas story was told in song with the Pop song “Hallelujah” (Christmas version). This was sung by Anika Bhatnagar and Naisha Mohanty accompanied by the band.

Gifts & impromptu prizes were given away by our Musical Santa to those who played on the spot whatever piece Lorraine asked them to. These included 4 years old Veer Singh Randhawa for playing a one line of “Jingle Bells”, 6 years old Joshua A. Hughe & Jordan A. Hughe for playing together 2 lines of “Jingle Bells”, 7 years old Aarav Koul for playing “Frosty The Snowman”, Advay Chawla for playing “We Wish You A Merry Christmas”, Shashwat Joglekar for playing a beautiful minor version of “Jingle Bells”, and Tara Gogoi for playing “Jingle Bells”.

A group of 20 senior school students of Pathways World School performed a lively “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Winter Wonderland” conducted well by Adel Sahnoun.

The famous Christmas Carol “Twelve Days of Christmas” was rendered with much gusto and style by the students of Lorraine Music Academy. There was a special dance performance by students of Jyestha, who danced to the music of “The Merry Christmas Polka”. These children study at the school run on the roadside and have never seen an auditorium before this. It was a truly a great exposure and an inspiring time for them.

The students of Lorraine Music Academy sang “A Million Dreams” in keeping with the vision of the Nation Building Project INDIA DREAMS 2047, which is an initiative of the LAMP Trust. The children also sang the song “Indian Dream”, composed by the children of Lorraine Music Academy.

The audience participated wholeheartedly during the event. Santa Claus moved around the auditorium, encouraging children to come, sing and play Christmas Carols. Santa Claus also gave away many gifts, sweets and prizes to the children.

The grand finale of the event was a sing-along carol session led by Lorraine Fiona Aloysius and the audience belting out Christmas carols with joy. Many Christmas prizes were given out to the people in the audience who came on to the stage to sing boldly. These prizes were courtesy “Anthea”. The concert was gifted to the community by “Conduent”. It was truly a Musical Christmas Celebration brimming with true community spirit of sharing and giving.

By singing Christmas Carols we wish to spread the message of love, joy, peace and community living across India. The whole spirit of Christmas is that of coming together, sharing, caring, giving, loving and forgiving. We believe music is the best way to express this spirit afresh among the participants, performers and audience.

A MUSICAL MEMORIAL – REMEMBERING LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI

The strong and true spirit of patriotism shone brightly when the LAMP Trust and the Lorraine Music Academy hosted “A MUSICAL MEMORIAL – REMEMBERING LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI on 24th October 2018 at Kingdom of Dreams, Gurugram

The Auditorium was packed to capacity with people from all across the country and Gurugram, who gathered together to commemorate the inspiring, famous slogan “JAI JAWAN JAI KISAN” coined by Bharat Ratna Lal Bahadur Shastri for our Nation 53 years ago during the time of famine and war in our country!

Professional musicians along with citizens and about 100 students from Lorraine Music Academy, CCA School and Paramlaksh World School expressed their patriotic sentiments through song, dance, and words.

The evening began with a moving rendition of “Vande Mataram” by Sana Garde and the Choir of Lorraine Music Academy. This was followed by a song “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” in which the whole audience joined in with full gusto. The next song, a popular favourite for all ages, “Aa Chalke Tujhe Main Leke Chalu”, transported the audience to another idyllic world of no tears, no sorrow but only peace and love.

The surprise of the evening was a patriotic song in Jazz Rap style composed by Lorraine Music Academy titled “The Indian Dream”. It was a mix of Hindi and English with a super beat and a catchy tune. It was such a hit that the performers repeated it three times. Children were singing their hearts out in praise of our 2nd Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri and our Soldiers and Farmers who are the backbone of our country. Lal Bahadur Shastri’s life and principles were highlighted through each song and the young generation actually described him in two words as their “Rock Star”!

The highlight of the event was a one-of-its-kind, never done before, “Thinkers’ Forum Charcha” moderated on stage by Aubrey Aloysius with 3 distinguished heroes and war veterans from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air ForceLt. General Vinod Bhatia, Vice Admiral D.P.S. Varma, and Air Marshal Anil Chopra – who discussed the highlights of the 1965 War and their involvement in the subsequent Wars. The discussion also covered the 1971 War, the 1988 Operation Cactus, the 1999 Kargil War and included technological progress made until the present day situation, giving the next generation a peek into the future of India’s vision leading up to 2047 when we celebrate our Centenary Year.

The event ended on a high note with patriotic, colourful, energetic and well orchestrated dances relating to the Soldiers and the Farmers, performed by students of CCA School and Paramlaksh World School.

The impact of this high powered event will be seen and felt in time to come and we as Indians have to just start dreaming and doing in order to realise “The Indian Dream”.

At the event, Sunil Shastri encouragingly said, “Aubrey, you need not worry, the people are behind you, we all are with you, and we are sure that you will be able to succeed in your mission.” He also encouraged the audience to take a pledge to let every family in India have one Lal Bahadur Shastri in their family to take India forward at a very fast pace towards development. Aubrey Aloysius, founder of the Lorraine Music Academy and the LAMP Trust, and Chairman of the National Patriotic Project, says “When natural disasters – such as Earthquakes, Floods, Landslides, Cyclones, Tsunamis, Floods, Heat Waves – strikes home and around the world, Indians should be prepared to help in mitigation. Talented Singers, Musicians and Dancers from across Gurgaon and the National Capital Region of Delhi came together to sing and perform. Singing brings unity of spirit and oneness. The audience were encouraged to lend their voices and their hearts to raise awareness, sensitivity, resilience, resources and support for National Disaster Management & Relief work and foster a culture of prevention, preparedness and mitigation. The songs that we sang, the resources that we raised, will help the natural disaster victims re-build their broken lives brick by brick. We may not be directly affected, but we are brothers and sisters and we must feel for them and hence do what we can to help them rebuild their lives.”

This “Come India Sing For Disaster Relief” musical performance forms a part of our “Come India Sing…” series of Nation Building initiatives utilising music as a tool. This series of initiatives, events & participative activities forms a part of the ongoing National Patriotic Project “Come India Sing Jana Gana Mana” that was launched on 15th August 2013, our Independence Day.

This concert was a part of the nation building “Come India Sing” initiative and movement. This concert was in aid of raising awareness, support and resources for the “Come India Sing…” series of Nation Building initiatives utilising music as a tool. This series of initiatives, events & participative activities forms a part of the ongoing National Patriotic Project “Come India Sing Jana Gana Mana” that was launched on 15th August 2013, our Independence Day.

Aubrey Aloysius, founder of the Lorraine Music Academy and the LAMP Trust, and Chairman of the National Patriotic Project, says “Music is food for the soul. Good food and good exercise gives you good physical stability. A good diet of the right kind of music gives you mental, emotional, intellectual and spiritual stability. Music helps the creative process and sparks the imagination and ideas. When this musical imagination and experience of singing our National Anthem is ignited in a group circumstance, we have the most extraordinary power to change young lives for positive living and nation-building. The “Come India Sing” series of musical initiatives aims to unite children, youth and their families in the Nation Building task, promoting the key initiatives of our Government for cleanliness, hygiene, good health & development through music. Music helps to develop and build the scientific temper among children. Music, science and mathematics are co-related. It has been scientifically proved that music develops mathematical skills. When we study music, we have vibrations, frequency, resonance, tension, mass, length, pitch, harmonics, overtones – attributes that connect physics to music! We desire that every child and youth of the nation makes music their best friend for their life time, thereby stirring their creative talents. Music will also enable them to better handle stress in life ahead and help them keep the straight and narrow path.”

The Musical Evening included a brief workshop embedded in the concert to educate and encourage the audience to abide by the Constitution of India and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem. This included an explanation and training on the proper singing of the National Anthem as per the code as laid out in the Constitution – in the right rhythm, melody and timing.

This concert was arranged in aid of raising awareness, support and resources for the National Patriotic Project “Come India Sing Jana Gana Mana”. The Musical Memorial included patriotic and folk songs / dances depicting India’s cultural ethos of “Unity in Diversity”. The event had a full capacity audience singing our National Anthem with pride, passion, and precision. The National Patriotic Project “Come India Sing Jana Gana Mana” is a clarion call to 1.27 Billion Indians to stand together for one cause – the Unity of India, by singing one song – our National Anthem, in the correct code as laid out in the Constitution of India, which is around 52 seconds.

The event also marked the encouragement of a nation-wide drive to encourage proper singing of our National Anthem the right way as per the code laid out in the Constitution of India across schools and educational institutions. The initiative includes speaking at gatherings of students in schools and educational institutions, during assembly time, in offices and institutions, conducting workshops and training sessions, teaching the correct way of singing the Anthem, with passion, pride and precision, i.e.- in 52 seconds.

Article 51A of the Constitution of India states that “It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to cherish and follow the noble ideals which inspired our national struggle for freedom; to uphold and protect the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India;…”.

This event forms a part of the ongoing National Patriotic Project “Come India Sing Jana Gana Mana” that was launched on 15th August 2013, our Independence Day.

The “Come India Sing” Nation-wide Audition and Talent Contest for Music, Art & Culture is open to all. This includes a slogan contest for every Indian citizen to express what the National Anthem means to them. The contest also encourages the practising & the singing of Jana Gana Mana, Patriotic Songs, and Folk Songs among others.
