The Thinker’s Forum with Author Oswalf Pereira

*(Entry By Invitation)

*(In order to receive your invite, please msg / sms / email to indicate your desire to attend, share your mobile number & address alongwith a brief on your background / profile which you may email to aubrey.aloysius@gmail.com)

“The Thinkers’ Forum” is open to thinking leaders – entrepreneurs and professionals in any industry or field, who are concerned not only about the ethical foundations of their own businesses and professional practices but also of society at large.

Dear Friend,

We are delighted with the level of high quality involvement at the group sessions we had in our sessions of 2012.

We got into some really good discussions across the table about some of the issues raised, with some excellent application to life in India today. The participants were very enthusiastic about the format and the meaningful discussions. There is a unanimous desire for organising more such sessions regularly in the future. Hence we are making space for more such discussion and dialogues among concerned citizens.

You may agree with us that we are living in exciting and eventful times of rapid change on many fronts. In India in particular, it is difficult, if not impossible, to remain immune from a feeling of having thrown off some of the fetters of the past. We can sense a new enthusiasm and opportunity for the future.

Although much of this new feeling emanates from and has been driven by the phenomenal growth of the economic sector, we can feel its presence in the social domain as well. At the same time, many outstanding and fundamental issues of values, principles, the rule of law and political & social reform, to name only a few, remain to be tackled. And many of us are deeply concerned about them.

In such an environment, one of the important tasks of a thoughtful civil society is to create and sustain as many areas as possible of informed discussion and debate. In a country of this size and talent, that space has remained surprisingly small. An inclination towards passivity, a wide latitude for compromise even if it involves the abandonment of important values, a fragile and misguided sense of nationalism which prevents us from facing things squarely, a desire to get on with one’s own existence at the expense of wider societal implications are some of the usually touted culprits. In addition, we harbour a misplaced notion of critique, viewing it in the light of a criticism rather than an essential prerequisite for growth in the fullest sense, as individuals, as society and as a nation.

We would like to facilitate such a space for dialogue. We are very pleased to invite you to “The Thinkers’ Forum” to be held in Gurgaon on Saturday the 13th of April, 2013. We have the privilege of having AUTHOR OSWALD PERIERA with us. This Forum will open up for discussion the stories and issues that the Author Oswald Pereira has thrown up through his 2 books “THE NEWSROOM MAFIA” and “REVENGE OF THE NAKED PRINCESS” and facilitate an exploration on the issues that we all debate in some form or the other and that impacts our lives in myriad ways, some direct and others rather more subtle.

“The Thinkers’ Forum” is open to thinking leaders – entrepreneurs and professionals, who are concerned not only about the ethical foundations of their own businesses and professional practices but also of society at large.

We trust this forum will represent a refreshing challenge, an opportunity to think and dialogue with others who have and express their views on ethical and philosophical matters, where a carefully selected package of readings supports the dialogue and where excellent moderation engages every participant through the time we spend together. Aubrey Aloysius will moderate the session.

We plan to have 1 session on 13th April 2013, lasting 2 hours:

• starting @ 7:00pm on Saturday 13th April 2013 concluding with dinner.

The session will include discussions in a group of upto 30 people. Please reserve your place early as there are limited seats. We would strongly urge you to stay for the concluding dinner. It is a good occasion to begin breathing again, to debrief informally, exchange addresses and relax a bit before we all head out to the outside world!

Once you confirm your attendance, you will receive further information on the venue and other details. Please do not hesitate to call me on +91-99101-43344 should you have queries prior to acceptance and certainly any thereafter as well. Lorraine and I look forward very much to welcoming you to this forum in Gurgaon.

With Best Wishes!
Aubrey Aloysius

Most of us associate Christendom with Christmas and the birth of Jesus. Actually, the most significant festival of the Christians is Easter (the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday, after being crucified on Good Friday). In the western music church tradition, famous composers like Mozart, Bach, Handel, etc have composed music, especially choral works – masses, oratorios, passions and cantatas – to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

This event brought to the audiences samples of the western compositions, modern style Easter Gospel and Easter Rock alongwith a contemporary presentation of the Last Supper & the Resurrection through the Indian Classical Dance format.

It was a joyous celebration wherein Members of Parliament Oscar Fernandes and Francisco Sardinha joined in the singing. Oscar Fernandes sang “Silent Night” with Aubrey Aloysius and Lorraine Fiona Aloysius. He also played the Mouth Organ beautifully for “Joy To The World”.

It was so much joy to see people from all faiths celebrate Christmas together. The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, addressed the gathering warm heartedly. He recognized and acknowledged the contributions of the Christian community in the field of education and also towards the upliftment of the poor and needy.

Lorraine Fiona Aloysius, Aubrey Aloysius, Marianne D’Cruz Aiman sang solos while Israeli Musician Gil Zohar played the piano and students of the Lorraine Music Academy (aged 3½ years upwards) with angelic voices sang Christmas carols. Krishna Vinod, Nayantara Sen and Jayant Gopalan sang verse solos. The message through song was “Christmas isn’t Christmas till it happens in your heart; somewhere deep inside you is where Christmas really starts….”. Carols and hymns sung included “The Gift Goes On”, “Aaya Masih”, “What Child Is This”, “Adeste Fideles”, “O Come All Ye Faithful”, among many others.

Arshiya Bhayana, Aanya Bhayana, Ishaana Mohanty, Arjun Bhartari Sahu, Kaavya Malhotra, Nayantara Sen, Ketaki Sarin, Sama Naik, Tanya Tomar, Prerna Sharma, Rhea Mahinder Kumar, Krishna Vinod, Rianna Basu, Jayant Gopalan, Meghna Gopalan, Krishna Nair, Nilay Sinha, Tishya Sekhar, Tanya Tomar, Zoya Duggal, Ananya Manoj and Paryn Kaur Khara were among the many children of all faiths who celebrated Christmas through song. These children study at various schools in Gurgaon – The Sri Ram Schools, Scottish High International School, Delhi Public School, Heritage School, Suncity World School, GD Goenka World School, Pathways World School, Amity International, among many others. Other Gurgaonites like Ninotchka Colaco, Niharika Thakur and Andrew Packiam also joined in the choir.

Earlier in the week, LAMP Foundation & Lorraine Music Academy had organized a musical event to celebrate Christmas through song by community participation on 17th December 2011 at Epicentre, Gurgaon. The Community Music Drive is still on! LAMP & Lorraine Music Academy had invited participation from people from across Gurgaon – Nirvana Country, Beverly Park, Sohna Road, Vipul Greens, Vatika City, The Palms, The Close, Paalam Vihar, Park View City, Hamilton Court, Ridgewood Estate, Regency Park, Laburnum, Aralias, World Spa, DLF City, Sushant Lok, Uniworld Gardens, Aardee City, among many others. Children, teenagers and adults had been learning Christmas carols for the past four weeks. They sang on stage popular songs and carols such as “Jingle Bells”, “Silent Night”, “The 12 Days of Christmas”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, “Santa Claus is coming to Town”, “What Child Is This”, among many others.

The reason for Christmas is that “God so loved the world that He gave his only Son Jesus; so that whoever believes in Him…. will have eternal life” (John 3:16 from the Holy Bible). “The true meaning of Christmas is found in the joy of loving and giving”, says Aubrey Aloysius, founder of the Lorraine Music Academy.

We look forward to exciting times in the new year 2012.

Earlier, Marian Noronha, Chairman & President, Turbocam International, USA & Duncan Watkinson, Managing Director, Turbocam India Pvt. Ltd. will receive the awards on Saturday 26th November (“National Citizen Action Day”) at the exclusive award ceremony which will take place @ 6:00pm at Sri Ram School Auditorium, DLF-III, Gurgaon. This will be followed by a full day “Right Every Wrong” Conclave on 27th November, where Marian Noronha & Duncan Watkinson will speak on the theme “Active Citizenship for fulfilling Fundamental Duties”. The idea is to encourage Social Justice and Democratic Values by being an Active Citizen, where we perform our Fundamental duties for better nation building.

Aubrey Aloysius says, “I have known Marian Noronha personally & professionally over the past 21+years. During this time Marian has been my mentor, friend and advisor. Marian’s wisdom and exemplary life has had a huge positive impact on my life. Marian Noronha spent much of his college years working in slums in Mumbai and villages in Maharashtra. As an engineering student, he developed windmills for rural applications. He left India in 1977 with just $6, started Turbocam in 1985 in America, and Turbocam India in 1989 as a manufacturer of complex machined aerospace components, creating jobs in Goa as a solution to poverty. Since 1999, Marian has redeemed 42 families from slavery in Nepal, created three villages, and built and supports four schools with over 400 children. His companies employ over 450 in nine countries and involve many in charitable work. He has developed, funded and installed water drilling, pumpline and treatment systems in Nepal, India and Ghana. His company was awarded the Freedom Award by U.S. President George W. Bush in 2007 for extraordinary support of employees who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2009 Business N.H. magazine named him the Business Leader of the year in New Hampshire, U.S.A.”

“Over the past 23+ years that I have known Duncan Watkinson as my mentor and friend, I have seen him tirelessly pursue – in personal and public life – the path of honesty, integrity, humility, ethical business practice, social justice and mercy in action. He has relentlessly pursued anti-corruption policies, having not paid a single bribe, to the extent of incurring consequent losses / project delays. He has cultivated an environment of honesty & truthfulness in his organization. His life has been an example of frugal living and sacrifice in serving the poor and needy in our community across India. He is involved with various works to serve the poor and needy such as running clinics, slum schools, a leprosy ambulance and old people’s home. He has relentlessly pursued anti corruption policies. He is the Founder Trustee of The SPAN Trust, Bangalore, where the leprosy affected are helped to earn a living. It also runs a Day Care Centre and Infant School in a Pune slum and self-help programmes for women. Duncan Watkinson has been advisor to Jesus Mercy Home Association Society, which runs orphanages, a rural hospital and nurses’ training in Tamil Nadu. He also cares for the leprosy-affected in Gulbarga through Karuna Charitable Trust, in which he is the Trustee”, says Aubrey Aloysius, Managing Director of Lorraine Music Academy & Founder Trustee, LAMP.

“I am concerned about helping the poor and needy and have spent much time, energy and money in helping the disadvantaged. However, I feel that one issue of social justice which must be addressed is the paying of bribes. I believe that the nation would change if a few lakh determined and outspoken people all refused to give or take bribes. We do not need new laws; we need ‘better’ people. I am longing for an army of such people to rise up and be counted”, says Duncan Watkinson.

“When a citizen sees a problem in society, he cannot wait until somebody else solves the problem. He steps into the need, even though the problem may be far bigger than himself. As he does so in a humble manner, seeking the help and support of his Creator rather than doing it for his personal glory, others join in and edifices may crumble,” says Marian Noronha.

Our nation and the world are in need of leaders with character and resolve to create change through a commitment to social issues. We at the Lorraine Music Academy & at the LAMP Trust congratulate Marian Noronha & Duncan Watkinson on being selected for the Global Indian Karmaveer Puraskar & the Global Citizen Karmaveer Puraskar – National Awards for Social Justice & Citizen Action 2011, in recognition for their vision and work on social issues. We admire Marian Noronha & Duncan Watkinson for possessing the conviction and compassion to stand up, speak out and lead the change with their positive attitude!

Marian’s, Duncan’s & Turbocam’s story about their stand against bribery has been picked up in the national media:
