The festival of colours in Gurgaon was spent in a magical way at Epicentre by Lorraine Music Academy and LAMP Trust. They hosted “Come India Sing A Festive Song – A Musical Evening Celebrating Colours” on the eve of Holi Festival, on Saturday 15th March 2014.

It was the first time ever that a creative way of celebrating Holi in an auditorium integrating instrumental music, singing, dance performances and painting of colours were initiated. The audience witnessed musicians, singers, dancers and visual artists – both professionals and children of all ages – performing together on stage to an enthusiastic and participative audience.

Lorraine Fiona Aloysius played on piano the work of French composer Claude Debussy’s 1st Arabesque – while versatile painter, sculptor & photographer Savita Malhotra painted on stage to the music. Ganesh Mohan left the audience mesmerised with his dance to festive music which combined art, dance, balancing acts, juggling and skating.

Aubrey Aloysius led the group with “Edelweiss”  – a world famous song about a white flower from the Hollywood movie – “Sound of Music” while children painted on stage. The teenage band and children sang songs depicting colour – “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”, “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Yellow Submarine”, “Yellow”, “Black Velvet.

The final act was the painting of patriotic rainbows by children using the colours saffron, white, green and blue. Aubrey Aloysius conducted a brief workshop to educate and encourage the audience to abide by the Constitution of India and respect its ideals and institutions, the National Flag and the National Anthem. This included an explanation on the proper singing of the Indian National Anthem, Jana Gana Mana, with pride, passion, and precision, in the right rhythm, melody and timing – in 52 seconds.

The audience left the auditorium feeling bright, happy, exhilarated and surprised that they could celebrate Holi in an auditorium by splashing colours on canvas while simultaneously enjoying the colourful music and vibrantly colourful dances.

Ganesh Mohan, a 29-year-old Coimbatore-based aeronautical engineer and an award-winning dancer, was in Gurgaon this weekend to present a fusion dance performance on Saturday at Epicenter. "The performance which I gave was a mix of Tamil folk, Odissi, Kathak and Western. I also did a bit of juggling and skating," he told TOI.

Lorraine Music Academy, which organised the event at Epicentre called this a ‘musical concert to celebrate colours‘. "Through colours, you express yourself visually. Music and dance which are also varied forms visual expression," said Aubrey Aloysius, chairman and CEO of Lorraine Music Academy, while justifying "strong connect" between music and colours.

The musical night was followed by painting -another medium of expression – in sync with music and songs. "We called a painter who painted to articulate a song onto a canvas," Aubrey says…..
