Almost 200 professionals and children will celebrate Independence Day in Gurgaon with songs, instrumental performances and dance. The event will also include poetry, and heads of several institutions in the National Capital Region are expected to attend.

National Patriotic Project chairman Aubrey Aloysius said the event includes a workshop on singing the National Anthem in 52 seconds.

“We need to get back to the basics of nation-building. The first fundamental duty in the Constitution is to respect the National Flag and the Anthem. Although the official code stipulates that JANA GANA MANA has to be sung within 52 seconds, most people sing it for over a minute,” he told THE HINDU.

A workshop will also be held for the participants on singing the anthem within the correct time frame. The event precedes a nation-wide contest being organised by the project to identify talent in performing arts.

Winners of the same will get to sing the National Anthem with political leaders in an event that may be televised, he said.

At an event on Independence Day at Epicentre Auditorium at 11 a.m., songs including Vande Mataram, Sare Jahan Se Achcha, Hum Hinge Kamyaab and Maa Tujhe Salaam, among others.
